A couple years ago I was in Shanghai teaching a class about dating and relationships, and I overheard students talking about how they had seen a Chinese girl with a black boyfriend. They were shocked and, unfortunately, appalled. I told them, “Get used to it, the world is changing and you’re going to see that a lot more in the future.”
It’s nice to see the numbers back up what many of us have observed: in America at least, acceptance of interracial couples has increased dramatically over the past twenty years. Interracial relationships in movies and television are no longer presented as sources of conflict, and the stigma attached to it seems a thing of the past.
